Doors at 7:30pm, music at 8:30pm. All ages.
The Matinee are one part roots, one part rock, one part whiskey, and one part boot-stomping party. They are a band that delivers such a complete musical panorama right from the get-go. They have outstanding songs, a fantastic stage show, and a classic look and sound. The Matinee manage to capture a timeless sound and energy that combines the very best elements of some of the greatest roots-rock-alternative artists ever known.
After years of roadwork and growth, playing everywhere from prisons to air force bases and every watering hole in between, The Matinee has found its niche ploughing the middle ground between rural festivals and the urban hipster ground zero of your choice. With an explosive live show that has been described as “an uproar of stomping, clapping, and blazing chops,” The Matinee are in the rare position of being welcome almost everywhere they go. Don’t miss the last show of the 2016 Long Day’s Night Music Festival as we start of the summer with a bang!
Nick Faye & The Deputies
Opening for The Matinee, is Saskatchewan-born Nick Faye. The band, Nick Faye and the Deputies, released their debut full length album “The Last Best West” in May 2011 to favourable reviews and extensive community radio airtime across North America.
“Harvest EP” is a byproduct of a broken heart, rough hands, weary eyes, and an idle mind. The songs were written by Faye while working as a farmhand at his family farm near Kelliher, SK during the summer of 2012. The band travelled to the same farmhouse in October to record the songs. Most recently Nick Faye and the Deputies released their EP Lambswool on March 25, 2016. The EP explores the social consequences of mental and physical fatigue that touring musicians frequently experience while on tour.
Faye has shared the stage with notable artists such as Shad, Arkells, Rah Rah, Teen Daze, Northcote, Zach Lucky, Andy Shauf, Fisticuffs and We Were Lovers.
