Joel Plaskett Emergency

Take three guys and add a little music making mischief to create the sound that is The Joel Plaskett Emergency. Giving hope to other East-Coast musicians, multiple Juno winning song writer Joel Plaskett met up with Dave Marsh and Chris Pennell to form the “deliciously Canadian” band.

Known for songs like “Nowhere with You”, “Through & Through & Through” and “Come On, Teacher” whether you realize it or not, you’ve been listening to Joel Plaskett. With a never-ending touring schedule, either solo or with The Emergency, Joel Plaskett captures the Canadian spirit. Coming all the way from Lunenberg, Nova Scotia, Plaskett has been part of the music industry for over 20 years. He has toured with bands such as the Tragically Hip and Sloan. Plaskett is comfortable playing a wide array of music genres, from rock, to blues, to pop.  After a split from his former rock band, Thrush Hermit, the three men got together to continue doing something they love, making music.  Five albums later the Joel Plaskett Emergency are still combining rock, folk, indie and great song writing.

While most other musicians move away in hopes of making it big, Joel Plaskett has rooted himself in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The Joel Plaskett Emergency was nominated for 7 East Coast Music awards in 2008, bringing home 6 of them. Whether playing local shows or symphony-backed concerts, their gigs are always delightful, wild and meaningful affairs.

Bombargo

A common side effect of Bombargo is the desire to move and to shake.

Bombargo is a four-piece band from Saskatoon consisting of Spencer Chilliak, Nathan Thoen, Phil Kashap and Graeme Tilsley. Formed in 2014 after another festival, Bombargo is driven by positivity in music and in life. They all bring in different various influences and sounds, trying their best not to stick to just one genre. Their funky, rock, indie sound is sure to hit your soul and make you groove.

Believing the world needs a little more positivity and laughter they have been featured in the CBC Searchlight competition, a contest to find the best up and coming Canadian artists, submitting their uplifting track “Little Bit More”.

All four band members agree that they are best when experienced live, bringing raw energy and intensity to their performances.  It doesn’t take long to feel the energy and get yourself singing and dancing along. Lead singer Nathan Thoen told CBC “…If you’ve never been to a Bombargo show, that’s where we like to shine.”
